‘THIS IS AFRICA’ – African Culture and Design Festival

Themed ‘This is Africa’ , the African Culture and Design Festival showcased an impeccable variety of Traditional African Art, Modern and Contemporary Art, Design Installations, Lighting Design, Video Installations and other forms of Art and Design. The festival narrowed the creative spotlight on Nigeria and her emerging value for both historical and modern Art and design.

His Excellency, Dr. Yemi Osinbajo officially declared the festival open, alongside members of the IDAN Board of Trustees, Ekuah Abudu, Titi Ogufere and Ifeyinwa Ighodalo at an exclusive ceremony on Thursday November 9, 2017 at the Balmoral Convention Hall, Federal Palace Hotel Victoria Island Lagos.

The exclusive ceremony was well attended by dignitaries and notable personalities such as the Obi of Onitsha HRM Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, CFR, MNI, Chief Nike Okundaye, Founder of the Nike Art Gallery and Chief Mrs. Funmilayo Ajibola, Veteran artist and master craftsman Demas Nwoko, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, Joke Silva, Jumoke Adenowo, Mo Abudu, Nkiru Anumudu and many more.

The 4-day art festival ran through to the 12th of  November, 2017 showcasing the creativity of various artists and designers across the continent with hundreds of people in attendance.  The admirable works of artistes such as Caxton Alile, Tobenna Okwuosa, Kelani Abass, Selly Raby Kane, Lani Adeoye, Sanda Amadou and several others at the festival has gone a long way in reinforcing the need to invest more in homegrown artistes in Nigeria and Africa. From Pre-historic Art to Virtual reality ‘This is Africa’ will remain a memorable experience for all art lovers and design enthusiasts who came to witness Art and Design extraordinaires.
