The World’s Most Expensive Car Key is Made with Solid Gold and Studded with Diamonds

Last week, we brought you the story of a custom Lamborghini Aventador SV covered with 2 million Swarovski crystals. But how can you make your bespoke luxury car even more special? A Finnish luxury goods company called Awain has just the thing for those disgruntled customers for whom “too much” is never enough.

The company has launched a new series of car keys for customers in Dubai that are encrusted with precious gemstones and other ultra-premium materials.

Launched in three different versions, the bejeweled key-fobs by Awain is available in limited numbers with each unit taking anywhere between 100 and 300 hours to create by the company’s master craftsmen. The range starts with the Quantum line that costs 49,000 euros (about $55,000), which comes studded with 3.6 carats of diamonds and 175 grams of gold. The Serenity line is the company’s mid-range option that is priced at 80,000 euros (roughly $100,000) and offers a combination of 20 carats of diamonds and 175 grams of gold. At the top is the Phantom which costs a whopping 500,000 euros (close to $562,000 at current exchange rates), making it the world’s most expensive car key. Just to give it some context, the Phantom key costs more than a limited edition Lamborghini SVJ. For that price, you get a key encrusted with 34.5 carats of tiny diamonds on the outside along with other precious stones and 175 grams of solid 18-carat gold. The customer also gets the option to customize the key by choosing the materials for the center section.

All the three variants are available in the limited number of 20 examples each and can be had for models from Bugatti, Bentley, Aston Martin, Maserati, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-Maybach, Rolls-Royce, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz. Awain is not the only company to come up with bejeweled key fobs. In 2016, Optimal Innovative Solutions came up with a custom key for Koenigsegg Agera R that was covered with 40 carats of diamonds and was priced at $250,000. Last year, a company called Senturion introduced a $270,000 bracelet-shaped car key that was studded with diamonds and was made from a 4 billion-year-old meteorite.
